So we all know that the seasons can make a massive difference to your big day. They can affect whether it will be an inside or outdoors affair, whether you will be running in to your venue with a massive brolly, and whether outside photography will be possible. Depending on where you live, it could also affect whether or not you could actually get to your venue!
Now down here in good old Plymouth, the weather is rain, rain, rain. We get used to it. But every once in a while we get a nice summer's day, or a smattering of snow. You really can't predict it here.
But to give you a general idea, think about what kind of do you would prefer.
Late spring and summer allow for an outside ceremony and reception, whereas early spring, autumn and winter will be just too cold, especially for your bridal party!
To give those of you who just aren't sure right now a overview, see below -
Spring -
- bright and fresh
- beautiful blooms
- flowers in all colours, shapes and sizes
- cheaper honeymoon
- if booked before April, cheaper venue costs (Borringdon Hall offer a 10% discount between October and April, excluding Christmas and New Year)
Summer -
- bright sunshine ( hopefully )
- bold and strong colours
- long school holidays if you have little ones, bad news if you are trying to save money though
- potentially warm for outdoor service
Autumn -
- perfect if you are going for a vintage theme
- gold and bronze foliage
- cheaper venues from October onwards
- kids are back at school, so cheaper again
- slightly cooler so the boys don't get too warm
Winter -
- if it snows, it can be so picturesque
- beware however, snow can also ruin a wedding day. It could prevent guests and your parties from arriving safely at your venue, and if you decide on a civil ceremony, it could even prevent your registrar from getting there!
- a cosey, romantic atmosphere
- beautiful scenery
- apart from at Christmas and New Year, this is the cheapest time to book in regards to venues!
Personally, I am torn between a spring or autumn wedding, as not only are they cheaper ( this is after all a blog about saving those pennies ) , but they are also more meaningful to me and Sam. We met in Spring, and got engaged in Autumn! These seasons will also suit my theme perfectly, as the vintage theme is becoming more of a sure thing!
